Julie White speaks at Rugby Breakfast event

An event to help Rugby-based entrepreneurs grow their business is being held in the town for the first time later this month.

The Rugby Breakfast will be bringing together businesses from across the borough on Friday, April 22, to network with organisations from across the region and to find out more about the different types of support that are available.

Some of the topics up for discussion include access to grants and loans, exporting, apprenticeships and commercial property.

Local MP Mark Pawsey will be attending the event at Benn Hall on Newbold Road between 7.45am and 9am, which already has over 60 businesses confirmed to attend.

Clive Hickman, Chief Executive of the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Ansty will also be speaking to visitors to reveal a range of technologies his team are developing alongside Midlands businesses that will help businesses in the coming years.

The event has been jointly organised between the Coventry & Warwickshire Growth Hub (CWGH), Invest in Warwickshire and Rugby Borough Council.

The CWGH was formed by the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, and aims to help businesses grow by providing specialist advice.

Rich Warren, account manager at Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, is one of the people behind organising the event and is confident the meeting will be a great success.

He said: “It’s these type of events that put businesses on the path to success, so it’s great to see that so many have signed up to attend already.

“We’d urge as many local companies as possible to attend. Not only will this event unlock a variety of obstacles to growth for many business people, it’s an ideal opportunity for entrepreneurs to keep their finger on the pulse.”

Julie White, a former businesswoman of the year and owner of Shilton-based D-Drill – which has branches across the UK, will also be speaking at the event.

She said: “Businesses need all the help they can get. The economy is growing but it’s still not easy out there so you have to give yourself an advantage of your competitors.

“Events such as this can provide a raft of information and advice for companies and that’s well worth giving up just over an hour of your time for.”
