Open Doors 2024

Construction work in the UK declined in June, reversing a period of growth for the sector as residential housebuilding fell at the fastest pace in more than three years.

The latest S&P Global/CIPS construction purchasing managers’ index scored 48.9 last month, down from 51.6 in May and coming in below economists’ expectations.

A score above 50 indicates the sector is growing, while a score below means it is shrinking.

Julie said “There is no doubt that conditions have been tough for the construction sector but there are still new opportunities out there.

One of the biggest issues is being able to attract new talent into the sector to help the industry grow and I believe increasing the number of apprentices in construction is one way of starting to address that.”
