Julie on the national airwaves

D-Drill & Sawing managing director Julie White has been speaking up for construction on national radio today.

Julie, who is the chair of Build UK, was invited out to a construction site in Burton upon Trent to discuss what the sector needs from the next Government with the General Election just weeks away.

The first interview was on BBC Radio 5 Live’s flagship business programme Wake Up To Money as a range of guests discussed construction and housebuilding.

That was followed by an interview on the Today programme on Radio 4 before another jump back over to Radio 5 Live Breakfast – all before 7.30am.

Julie said there were a range of ‘asks’ from the construction industry ahead of polling day with the interviews focussing on skills and planning.

She told the BBC: “We haven’t been building the houses we should have been over several years and it starts from the beginning – we need to get planning moving more quickly.

“The next Government needs to reform the system – it’s stuck.

“We also need the skills and the people to build more houses so the industry needs to be able to bring on more apprentices. That’s what we are doing here at D-Drill year after year.

“Construction needs 50,000 people to come into the industry each year to meet demand so that’s another priority for the next Government.”
