D-Drill was always part of my life!

D-Drill & Sawing managing director Julie White has told a business podcast that the company has been part of her life from an early age and how she still gets a kick out of growing the business.

Julie was a special guest on the Dealmaker Podcast with Liam J Ryan, which regularly interviews businesspeople and entrepreneurs about their own personal journey. 

In the podcast, which runs for just under half-an-hour, Julie revealed how the company got into her blood when she was just a child before she went on to complete a management buy-out in 2008.

Julie said: “D-Drill was always in my life and it was the nicest part of my life.

“It was a family business. Mum would answer the red telephone and take orders and enquiries in the kitchen while Dad was often away working.

“When Dad got back, we’d have drillers and sawyers sleeping on the floor of the house and then you’d have Dad fixing equipment on the kitchen table.

“So, I really watched the business grow as I was growing up – from one office in Coventry to branches all over the country.”

Since taking over, Julie has evolved the business which offers diamond drilling, concrete sawing and controlled demolition services to the construction industry. It now offers 2D and 3D scanning as well as pull-testing services. 

She has also become a spokesperson for the industry andexplained how that has helped to speak up on issues that matter.

“My media profile has grown over the years,” said Julie, “And I’ve used that to push one of my particular passions – apprenticeships.”
