D-Drill Daughter Takes the Lead
01 May 2008
Julie White, daughter of local business man and diamond drilling pioneer Peter White, has completed a management buy out procedure to take over from her father; as D-Drill (Master Drillers) Ltd and Superfloor Ltd Group Managing Director based on Shilton Industrial Estate.
As Peter White retires, Julie accepts the role with relish. She told us, “My dad put diamond drilling on the map taking the D-Drill company to 40 years of uninterrupted business in Coventry and across the UK. His business and reputation was built from scratch and I will step into these shoes and continue the pursuit of excellence whilst adding my own stamp of course.”
This is said with a twinkle in her eye – Julie’s name is already known in the business and her reputation for getting things done follows her at every turn. “I’m very aware that I am a woman making headway in a man’s world. This just makes me work harder and smarter.”
Julie took the decision to restructure the company to ensure that they are as tightly organised as possible. “A large part of our restructuring programme was the decision to complete the management buy out with a new bank. After 30 years with Natwest it was time to move to a bank that could provide us with a highly personalised service. Svenska Handelsbanken, founded in Sweden in 1871, has recently opened a branch in The Quadrant, Coventry. The management buy-out procedure benefited from quick and open communication lines as the bank managers had the power to make decisions at a local level. We hope this will be the beginning of a long relationship with Svenska Handelsbanken.”
It appears that D-Drill’s management and reorganisation is a strong asset in a competitive environment. Julie graduated from business school in 1989 and introduced a specialist floor preparation service to the group’s portfolio. Like her father, Julie was immediately ‘hands on’, carrying out her first contracts herself.
To add to the strong team, a new Operations Director, Alan Rogers has been brought on board because of his logistical expertise. Alan said, “I have worked in the Automotive industry for 25 years which is entirely dependent on structured logistical planning at every stage of the car making process. I will adapt these processes to make D-Drill highly organised to suit the procedural expectations of large businesses.”
