Cutting into PQQs

The UK’s leading drilling and sawing specialists claims it has cut its time wasted on filling in pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs) by 80 per cent after signing up to a web-based service.

D-Drill has signed up to the Builder’s Profile and managing director Julie White believes it is the answer to one of the problems that has plagued the industry for years. The story was recently featured in industry title Construction News.

Most sub-contractors bemoan the amount of time they waste filling in PQQs in order to tender for work but the people behind Builder’s Profile say it is the ‘perfect’ solution to the problem.

And Julie agrees: “We’ve cut down the time we take filling in PQQs massively. We believe it is around 80 per cent.

“The time D-Drill saves on filling out PQQs, we can give back in cost reduction on the job to our customers

“Everyone in the industry has been looking at a way to solve this because, in our case, we can spend more time filling in the PQQ than it actually takes to do the job sometimes!

“That makes no sense and to try to standardise PQQs and make it possible to use the same information again and again has to be the right way to go.”

That is what Builder’s Profile set out to do two years ago and with companies such as D-Drill and the Kier Group on board, it believes it is succeeding.

It also has the backing of trade bodies such as the Builders’ Conference and the National Specialist Contractors Council.

Frank Becker, of Builder’s Profile explained: “We allow construction industry companies – no matter how big they are or which area of the industry they cover – to fill out one PQQ and then to keep it constantly updated.

“It means all of their information can be stored securely and can be accessed when they are tendering for work. We can distribute the information in whatever format those requesting it prefer.

“We have seen enough waste in this industry over many years now and this is a genuine way of putting a stop to that.

“If companies are not spending their time filling out PQQs, they can be getting on with other, more important tasks that benefit their business.

“Everyone understands the reason behind PQQs but this takes so much of the burden out of them and I believe we are on the verge of becoming the industry standard.”
