Opportunities of Olympic proportions
03 September 2012
What a wonderful few weeks it has been.
I have never been more proud to be British and, what is more, never more proud to be part of the construction industry in this country.
While, quite rightly, our athletes in the Olympics and now in the Paralympics have been hitting the headlines, I have been so proud of the way our industry has been able to shine across the globe too.
D-Drill played a part in the very early stages of construction of the Olympic Park and that achievement is something we are delighted to have on our CV.
I hope that in the weeks, months and years ahead, the Games leaves a positive legacy for construction in this country and helps us to export our world-class expertise and skills all over the world.
I was fortunate enough to get tickets for both the opening and closing ceremonies at the Games and they were quite breathtaking events.
They highlighted what a fantastic and unique place this country is and showed that we can be spectacular and off-the-wall and while everyone said we couldn’t ‘match’ China’s ceremonies four years ago, we didn’t need to. We did our own thing and showed off what makes the UK so special.
It would be great, now, if we could put the economic doom and gloom of recent years behind us and move on as a proud and confident nation.
We have proved what we are capable of if we put our minds to it and that is something that we should remember in the years ahead.
