Morfa Road, Swansea
Retaining wall collapse
D-Drill were called out to Morfa Road in Swansea where a retaining wall had suffered a collapse along a 4metre section.
The decision was taken to drill the wall and use soil nails to stabilise and restore the walls integrity.
Van Elle employed D-Drill to diamond drill through the face of the wall to eliminate vibration and further collapse.
After a site visit it was noticed that the wall was constructed of slag from a foundry. Some test holes were taken to confirm this and special drill bits had to be brought in to overcome the unusual composition.
As well as the soil nail holes, weep holes were drilled at specific locations to facilitate drainage.
