Llyn Teifi Reservoir
D-Drill at work in the Cambrian mountains
D-Drill South Wales was asked by Kaymac Marine, who was working on behalf of Welsh Water Dwr Cymru, to undertake a project on one of their reservoir's at Llyn Teifi in the Cambrian mountain's of Mid Wales.
We were asked to form two trenches in the floor slab of the slip way, total length 9m long x 650mm wide x 300mm deep, for new pipe work to be put in place and to form a 450mm wide 175mm high slot x 1.6m deep through the bund wall, after the concrete was removed from the trench for the pipes to go through.
We then needed to diamond drill a 175mm dia hole into the dam wall for pipe work to be fitted. The overall depth was 2m 750mm. Kaymac Marine had placed a limpet dam in the main reservoir that was bolted on the wall and then the water was pumped out so we could drill right through.
We used a hilti 3 phase wall saw for cutting the trench, power was supplied by a 3 phase generator which Kaymac had hired. We used a weka dk32 for drilling through the bund wall and a Dimas hydraulic motor for drilling through the reservoir wall, due to the depth.
