D-Drill branch passes college test

D-Drill has been part of a multi-million pound refurbishment project at a highly-regarded college in the Lancashire.

D-Drill, which has ten offices across the UK including a north west branch in Wigan, employs experts in the concrete sawing, diamond drilling and demolition industry. 

The company was called in to remove 190 concrete mullions from three buildings at Blackpool & Fylde College in Blackpool. 

D-Drill was employed by Salisbury-based D&B Facades UK Ltd and carried out the work out of hours to eliminate disruption to the college, which remained open during the works. 

Such was the size and weight of the mullions – 2.1 metres long by 120mm by 80mm – only 16 could be carefully removed per day by two crews over the course of a series of weekends. 

The work was made all the more difficult by the fact that it was being carried out at height and a clean cut was required to allow for the new cladding of the building. 

Neil Wood, D-Drill’s north west branch manager, said it was the second time that the firm had worked on the college in the space of two years. 

He said: “We were called in during 2011 to carry out a similar task on separate buildings at the college.

“At that time, we demonstrated our ability to conduct this kind of task in a safe, professional and productive manner and that led to us winning this additional work.

“Our commitment to safety procedures was key in us winning the work but, of course, our expertise in concrete cutting was vital too. 

“It has been great to work on such a prestigious project in the region and to be part of such a major redevelopment programme at the college.”
