Waycon Precast, Exeter

Lift shaft panel reduction

D-Drill South Wales was asked by Waycon Precast at their location near Exeter to reduce the height of one of the precast lift shaft panels.

Due to a problem on site, the lift shaft being delivered was 150mm too high. Therefore the top shaft needed to loose 150mm from the bottom as there was a steel support cast into the concrete to take the weight of the lift car.

The team began by using the Hilti TE60 drill to drill fixings into the concrete for attaching the track and 3 phase Hilti hi cycle wall saw. They cut two sides of the shaft first, put wedges into them to secure the panels and then cut the third. For the final panel they used the site fork lift to take the full weight of the shaft so it would not jam the blade.

A Honda water pump was also used to pump water from a bowser through the Hilti pack, head and blade.

Waycon precast were very happy with the way the work was done and this method saved them from casting a replacement lift shaft panel.
